Can Your PC Run Elden Ring?

Elden Ring with the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion is FromSoftware's biggest game. The PC version is well optimized now (post-patches), and most modern hardware runs it beautifully.

System Requirements

Minimum (1080p Low, 30 FPS)

  • CPU: Intel Core i5-8400 / AMD Ryzen 3 3300X
  • GPU: NVIDIA GTX 1060 3GB / AMD RX 580 4GB
  • RAM: 12 GB
  • Storage: 80 GB SSD

Recommended (1080p High, 60 FPS)

  • CPU: Intel Core i7-8700K / AMD Ryzen 5 3600X
  • GPU: NVIDIA GTX 1070 8GB / AMD RX Vega 56 8GB
  • RAM: 16 GB
  • Storage: 80 GB SSD

Real Performance (2026 Hardware)

RTX 5060 Ti60 FPS60 FPS60 FPS
RTX 507060 FPS60 FPS60 FPS
RX 9070 XT60 FPS60 FPS60 FPS

The game is capped at 60 FPS. Any modern mid-range GPU maxes it out easily.

The 60 FPS Cap

Elden Ring is locked to 60 FPS. FromSoftware ties game physics to framerate:

  • Above 60 FPS = game speed increases
  • Jump distance changes
  • Combat timing breaks
Don't uncap the framerate unless you know what you're doing. Mods exist but can cause issues with online play and physics.

Best Settings

Since the 60 FPS cap is easy to hit, max everything:

  • Texture Quality: Maximum
  • Antialiasing Quality: High
  • SSAO: Maximum
  • Depth of Field: ON or OFF (preference)
  • Motion Blur: OFF (recommended for combat clarity)
  • Shadow Quality: Maximum
  • Lighting Quality: Maximum
  • Effects Quality: Maximum
  • Volumetric Quality: Maximum
  • Reflection Quality: Maximum
  • Water Surface Quality: High
  • Shader Quality: Maximum
  • Global Illumination Quality: Maximum
  • Grass Quality: High
If you're below 60 FPS, first reduce:
  • Grass Quality (High → Medium)
  • Volumetric Quality (Maximum → Medium)
  • Global Illumination (Maximum → Medium)

Shadow of the Erdtree DLC

The expansion has more demanding areas:

  • Dense forests with complex lighting
  • Large boss arenas with particles
  • New weather effects
If base game runs at solid 60, the DLC will too. Same settings apply.

The Stutter Problem (Mostly Fixed)

At launch, Elden Ring had severe stuttering from shader compilation. Patches have fixed most issues:

If you still stutter:

  • Update GPU drivers (very important)
  • Play for 30-60 minutes to build shader cache
  • Disable Steam Overlay
  • Close background apps (especially browsers with hardware acceleration)

Ray Tracing (Added in Patch)

Elden Ring added ray traced ambient occlusion:

  • Subtle visual improvement
  • Costs ~15% FPS
  • Requires RTX 20-series or newer
For 4K or older GPUs, leave RT off. It's not essential.

Controller vs Keyboard

FromSoftware games play best with controller. The PC version has full controller support:

  • Xbox controller: plug and play
  • PS5 controller: use Steam Input
  • Keyboard: playable but not recommended
